I get it, totally! If it's any consolation there seems to be a mass move underway from Twitter to Mastodon, and it seems to be a decent platform (think a decentralised Twitter without the ads or algorithms from about 5 yrs ago and you aren't far off. Lots of folks in my circle have either moved or are mirroring).

mastodon.lol seems to be a decent - and well moderated server to sign up with, but even if you aren't sure which server to register with it doesn't really matter as accounts can be moved later.
