Remembering Our Dead: July 2017
Every year on or around 20th November people worldwide gather for the Transgender day of Remembrance to to remember the trans people we have lost to murder and violence in the past year, as reported by the Trans Murder Monitoring Project and published by Transgender Europe (TGEU).
The following are details of trans people known to have been killed worldwide during July 2017 (see TDoR 2017: Say their names. Learn their stories. Remember them for an index covering the whole year).

Cindy was decapitated. The exact date of her death is unknown, but her body was found several days later.

Ebony Morgan

Shot
Ebony was shot multiple times at home. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Though they are aware she was a transgender woman, authorities referred to Morgan by her dead name because she had not legally changed her name, according to the News & Advance. Police say prosecutors also are aware of Morgan’s gender identity and are investigating the homicide as a possible hate crime.

Larissa was stabbed from behind with a screwdriver in a supermarket car park. The Civil Police also reported that the perpetrator (who has been arrested) introduced a vial of deodorant into her anus. He was arrested and confessed to the crime.

Yadira was the manager of the La Clínica bar located on the Tehuacán-Teotitlán state highway.
Neighbours reported hearing shouting and called the police. When the police arrived, they found Yadira’s body with head injuries.

“… Who was Bruna? Bruna was a trans woman with a huge smile on her face, sadness inside but always knew how to bear everything, at age 11 she assumed homosexuality, at the age of 16 she assumed her feminine identity, everyone who knew her knew how happy she was. on July 9, 2017 Bruna lost her life on a soccer field near her family’s home, where she was raped / punched in the face and shot, another trans woman murdered for homophobia. Bruna did not have social networks and did not even like to take photos … She was a person who stayed away from cameras and social networks.”

M. was a barber and hairdresser. He was taken hostage during an attempted robbery but caught in in an exchange of gunshots that followed.
Family members said that the barbershop that he worked for had recently moved to the mall because it had been the target of robbers at its previous location.
M’s death was not included in the official TGEU list.

Pamela was a sex worker who lived in conditions of extreme vulnerability. She had been going to the Municipality for some time to ask for help but none had been forthcoming.
In the early hours of Wednesday, 26th July she was shot in the face, chest and leg on a rural road of the town of Pérez. Her body showed no other signs of violence.
Six 380-caliber shell casings were found at the scene.

Monserrat was a sex worker in the area of the highway to Nuevo Laredo, north of Monterrey.
She was beaten around the head and then shot dead. Her body was found on a plot of land in Ciénega de Flores, Nuevo León.
Police reported that her body showed signs of blows to the head, as well as several wounds by firearm on the skull, blood stains and signs that it had been dragged to the place where it was found. They speculate she was killed elsewhere and then her body dragged to the place where it was found.
